It has also been applied incorrectly as a general belief to areas where it is not so true. In an exerted exercise work-out the muscles rip on a microscopic level. They hurt a little. Following the repetitive motion, the muscle memory keeps pumping lactic acid in the muscles. When insufficient or no stretching follows a hard work-out, excess lactic acid builds up in the muscle causing pain! The pain from the excess lactic acid is greater than the microscopic muscle rip. Did you know that stretching after a work-out is also a trigger to turn off excess lactic acid production in muscles? The cool down starts this process to slow down lactic acid production. Therefore, proper repeated stretching following a work out will allow you to be slightly uncomfortable the next day. It is possible to have no soreness the day after a work-out. Surprising isn’t it? That’s one change of perspective.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“Active Isolated Stretching, “assisted by a trained professional releases toxins and congestion, from the muscles. It also warms the fascia or web-like connective tissue for greater flexibility. You may need a kitchen timer.&lt;br /&gt;● Drink 8 oz of purified water at every break&lt;br /&gt;● Stretch at every break and at the end of your project with the opposite motion of what you’ve been sustaining&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you were sitting for your project, then stand for about 3 minutes while you drink your water.  Stretch by moving slowly on the exhale until you feel a slight pull.  Hold for 6 to 10 seconds and repeat up to six reps, six seconds. That’s it. "All God's creatures stretch when they wake up, except for people. " That's what my chiropractor used to tell me.  We're in too big of a hurry to get towork, school, etc.  Think of muscles like play dough.  You need to warm it up to work with it.  When you are finished playing with it, you need to mold it and shape it to put it away.  With muscles, you stretch before doing a task you haven't recently performed. This prevents injury. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As we age and may be less active, we can't just go do a half day yard project, lift multiple boxes for moving, mow the lawn, go belly dancing, start an aggressive work out, lift weights or do other types of activity that our body isn't used to doing.  It is necessary to prepare by stretching, priorto the different activity.  Plan an hourly break for 5 minutes. During the breaks- sit, drink water and stretch.  When you have finished your activity,stretch one more time.  The final stretch sends a signal to the muscles tostop producing extra lactic acid.  The build up of lactic acid in the muscles causes next day muscle pain and stiffness. This stretching at the end of the activity prevents the muscles from being very sore the next day.Try it.  You'll like it!  &lt;br /&gt;No pain is gain!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#009900;"&gt;What are the rules of stretching?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1.      No bouncing&lt;br /&gt;2.      First inhale&lt;br /&gt;3.      Move slowly&lt;br /&gt;4.      Hold the position when you feel a little bit of a pull&lt;br /&gt;5.      Hold the extended position for 6 seconds while slowly exhaling&lt;br /&gt;6.      Do not stretch if there is pain (Pain is a warning signal.)&lt;br /&gt;7.      Do not move the neck in a circular motion. (This is very bad for theneck.)&lt;br /&gt;8.      Keep breathing. Don't hold your breath.&lt;br /&gt;9. That web like material thatconnects the skin to the muscles and holds our insides together is called fascia.   When you cut it, surgically, or injure it in an accident, it heals by pulling together.  That pulling draws from far away.  It is not limited to the cut or tear area.  Scars have an underlying restriction in thefascia. This drawing of the connective tissue or fascia causes a restriction. This is called an underlying restriction in the fascia. This actually limits the body's range of motion.   This limited range of motion can affect a distance far away from the scar.  Some traumatic injuries leavethe scar with an accompanying pain or sensitivity.  They can be treated tointerrupt the cycle of pain and release the restriction.  This removes thepain and sensitivity, too. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The education on scars is on the increase.  More studies and treatments are becoming available, today.  Scar treatment isusually painless and quick.  In my practice, I have treated old and newscars with amazing results of total freedom from sensitivity.  One case wasa 14 year old scar from a trauma scar with extreme sensitivity from agreen stick fracture (a severe trauma with a broken bone that pierces throughthe skin). The client said the 14 year old scar still had pain when touched. After treatment, full range of motion was restored to the leg.   All pain and sensitivity was removed.  Massage lotion and pressure was applied with aforearm glide across the previously sensitive area.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I treated a scar from a thyroid surgery and it released restriction in themotion of the left shoulder.  The client was able to have a full range ofmotion restored.  The amazing thing is that once the scar is treated, it israre to need another treatment. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Do you have scars?
