What is Lymph Drainage Therapy?

Lymph Drainage Therapy, LDT, is a technique that activates and cleanses the human fluid transportation system, known as lymph. Lymph transports proteins, toxins, hormones, fatty acids, immune cells and others to the lymph nodes for processing, therefore eliminating toxins and waste products. Stress, fatigue, lack of physical activity, emotional shock, infections, substantial swelling, chemicals or food additives and more can stop or hinder the flow of lymph. These can lead to clogging or stagnation. Thus, LDT is a detoxification massage.

The llustrations above and below are the superficial lymph circulation of the face and torso, including lymph nodes, predominantly located in the dark areas of the photos.

Resource material: Silent Waves Theory and Practice of Lymphedema Therapy With Applications for Lymphedema, Chronic Pain, and Inflammation by Dr. Bruno Chikly.

Unlike Swedish Massage. Lymph Drainage Therapy uses no lotion. It is light, gentle, and a very specific technique. This method pumps the flow of the lymph toward the lymph nodes. The lymphatic system then directs the flow to the kidneys for filtration, sending nutrients into the bloodstream and toxins to drain into normal body elimination.

Stiffness in your body?

Do you spend long hours at the computer or garden without a break? Do you pay for it the next day with stiffness or pain in the back/neck?

There’s a simple solution! Here are four, easy, preventative steps:

● Stretch before starting your project
● Take a 3 to 5 minute break every hour or 90 minutes. You may need a kitchen timer.
● Drink 8 oz of purified water at every break
● Stretch at every break and at the end of your project with the opposite motion of what you’ve been sustaining

If you were sitting for your project, then stand for about 3 minutes while you drink your water. Stretch by moving slowly on the exhale until you feel a slight pull. Hold for 6 to 10 seconds and repeat up to six reps, six seconds. That’s it. Go back to your project.

The next day there is a huge improvement in how you feel!

Another great idea is to schedule a therapeutic or wellness massage for the day after your project. If you are in central FL, see www.CalmRelief.com .

Electro Therapeutic Point Stimulator Therapy

I have had a scar on my left outer thigh for 14 years with pain, sensitivity, and problems with certain leg movements.

After only one scar treatment session with MaryAnne, I have no pain or sensitivity on my scar and I am able to move my leg freely. During the actual treatment, I felt little to no pain.

I would highly recommend electro therapeutic point stimulation to anyone with scar pain.

Pearls of Wisdom For Stress

Stress is available in a variety pack of physical exertion, mental fatigue and emotional anguish. You can obtain just one or consider them as collectors items until you have all of them.

Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the mind and healing to thebody.

Does this sound like a proverb? It is. It's found in the old testament chapter eighteen and verse four.

Wisdom is like a gushing stream [sparkling, fresh, pure, and lifegiving].
This is another proverb in chapter sixteen and verse twenty four.

"So, You Think You Can Stretch?" "All God's creatures stretch when they wake up, except for people. " That's what my chiropractor used to tell me. We're in too big of a hurry to get towork, school, etc. Think of muscles like play dough. You need to warm it up to work with it. When you are finished playing with it, you need to mold it and shape it to put it away. With muscles, you stretch before doing a task you haven't recently performed. This prevents injury.

As we age and may be less active, we can't just go do a half day yard project, lift multiple boxes for moving, mow the lawn, go belly dancing, start an aggressive work out, lift weights or do other types of activity that our body isn't used to doing. It is necessary to prepare by stretching, priorto the different activity. Plan an hourly break for 5 minutes. During the breaks- sit, drink water and stretch. When you have finished your activity, stretch one more time. The final stretch sends a signal to the muscles tostop producing extra lactic acid. The build up of lactic acid in the muscles causes next day muscle pain and stiffness. This stretching at the end of the activity prevents the muscles from being very sore the next day.Try it. You'll like it!
No pain is gain!

What are the rules of stretching?
1. No bouncing
2. First inhale
3. Move slowly
4. Hold the position when you feel a little bit of a pull
5. Hold the extended position for 6 seconds while slowly exhaling
6. Do not stretch if there is pain (Pain is a warning signal.)
7. Do not move the neck in a circular motion. (This is very bad for theneck.)
8. Keep breathing. Don't hold your breath.
9. Repeat steps one through 8 until you feel limber.

Scar Treatment

Imagine the tissue under the skin of a scar. That web like material thatconnects the skin to the muscles and holds our insides together is called fascia. When you cut it, surgically, or injure it in an accident, it heals by pulling together. That pulling draws from far away. It is not limited to the cut or tear area. Scars have an underlying restriction in thefascia. This drawing of the connective tissue or fascia causes a restriction. This is called an underlying restriction in the fascia. This actually limits the body's range of motion. This limited range of motion can affect a distance far away from the scar. Some traumatic injuries leavethe scar with an accompanying pain or sensitivity. They can be treated tointerrupt the cycle of pain and release the restriction. This removes thepain and sensitivity, too.

The education on scars is on the increase. More studies and treatments are becoming available, today. Scar treatment isusually painless and quick. In my practice, I have treated old and newscars with amazing results of total freedom from sensitivity. One case wasa 14 year old scar from a trauma scar with extreme sensitivity from agreen stick fracture (a severe trauma with a broken bone that pierces throughthe skin). The client said the 14 year old scar still had pain when touched. After treatment, full range of motion was restored to the leg. All pain and sensitivity was removed. Massage lotion and pressure was applied with aforearm glide across the previously sensitive area.

I treated a scar from a thyroid surgery and it released restriction in themotion of the left shoulder. The client was able to have a full range ofmotion restored. The amazing thing is that once the scar is treated, it israre to need another treatment.

Do you have scars? Consider treatment for the following:
Knee or shoulder surgery scars
Back surgery scars
C-section scars
Breast surgery, cosmetic or removal scars

Questions & Answers about scar treatment:

If the scar is raised, will it be less noticeable after treatment? Yes
Are stretch marks a good candidate for scar therapy? No
How often should a scar get treated? Once, typically
Is this a laser treatment? No
Does the scar look the same after treatment? No, it's improved. However, it is still a scar. In most cases a pink scar turns to white.
